Congress gears up for mega rally in Assam's Bongaon ahead of Rahul Gandhi’s visit

Preparations are in full swing in Bongaon under the Boko-Chhaygaon constituency in Assam as the Indian National Congress (INC) readies to host a major political rally on Wednesday, July 16, featuring the visit of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.

The rally, scheduled to take place at the Shanti Nizora Club, is expected to witness a massive turnout and will be headlined by several senior Congress leaders, including INC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi.

Party insiders describe the event as a key moment in the Congress's Assam outreach strategy ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The venue is being extensively prepared with elaborate logistical and security arrangements.

To oversee preparations, Congress General Secretary and Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh, along with Gaurav Gogoi, MP Rakibul Hussain, Chaygaon MLA Rekibuddin Ahmed, Zakir Hussain Sikdar, APCC Women’s Wing President Mira Barthakur, former Minister Pranati Phukan, and senior leaders Debabrata Saikia, Rozilina Tirkey, Deep Bayan, and Rani Narah, have been monitoring developments closely.

APCC President Gaurav Gogoi confirmed that the official programme itinerary for Wednesday’s rally will be formally announced later tonight.

Political analysts view this rally as a significant political mobilisation effort in Lower Assam, aimed at reinvigorating grassroots support and sending a strong message to rival parties.
