Congress gives BJP a walkover in Panchayat polls: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made a bold statement ahead of the panchayat elections, claiming that the BJP has already won at least 200 Anchalik Panchayat seats uncontested.

Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister added that 17 to 18 Zilla Parishad seats are also set to go to the BJP without a contest, signaling a major upper hand for the ruling party even before polling begins.

Taking a direct swipe at the opposition, Sarma said, “Congress gives BJP a walkover in panchayat polls. Quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals — all will be won by us.”

The remark underscores the BJP's growing grip over local bodies in Assam and the apparent disarray within the opposition camp, especially the Congress, which has faced criticism for its lack of grassroots presence in recent years.

"We will win because Congress has no existence here," he said.

Speaking to ANI, Bora said, "Panchayat elections are near, which is important for us. We will contest these elections as per the NDA. We will win because Congress does not exist here."

He also extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Assam on the occasion of Rongali Bihu. "Rongali Bihu is an important festival for us; it symbolizes unity," he said.
