Congress in ‘miserable state’ nationwide, BJP set for big win in Haflong: Debolal Gorlosa
Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council, Debolal Gorlosa, on Thursday, February 19, claimed that the Congress party is in a “miserable condition” across the country and faces an even deeper crisis in Assam.
Addressing a public gathering in the East Maibang constituency, Gorlosa alleged that the Congress’ organisational structure in the state has weakened considerably and asserted that senior Congress leader Bhupen Bora would soon leave the party to join the BJP. He claimed that the Congress would suffer a crushing defeat in the forthcoming Assembly elections, while the BJP would return to power in Assam with a renewed mandate.
Confident of his party’s prospects in the hill district, Gorlosa maintained that the BJP has “no rival” in the Haflong constituency and stated that whoever is nominated as the party’s candidate would secure an easy victory.
Highlighting what he described as transformative governance under the BJP, Gorlosa said Dima Hasao district has witnessed substantial development across sectors, including tourism and infrastructure. Referring to the recently declared APSC results, he noted that 10 candidates from various communities in the district had cleared the examination, attributing the achievement to improved opportunities and governance under the BJP. He claimed that public sentiment in the hill district strongly favours the ruling party.
Responding to questions on whether a new face would be fielded from Haflong, Gorlosa said the decision rests with the party leadership. He informed that, as per a directive of the BJP’s national committee, party observers recently visited Haflong and collected names and feedback regarding three prospective candidates from local party workers in sealed envelopes. “Whoever the party nominates, we will work unitedly to ensure victory,” he said, reiterating that the BJP candidate would win by a significant margin.
In a parallel development, 20 members formally joined the BJP at the Maibang event in the presence of senior party leaders, including North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Chairman Mohit Hojai and Dima Hasao district BJP president Dhrity Thousen. The new entrants were led by former All Dimasa Students’ Union (ADSU) district president Uttam Langthasa and vice-president Anuj Kempry.
Welcoming the induction, Gorlosa said Langthasa’s experience in student leadership would strengthen the party and announced that both Uttam Langthasa and Kalien Daolagapu would soon be entrusted with key organisational responsibilities.
After joining the BJP, former student leader Uttam Langthasa said that after dedicating 16 years to student activism and working for the Dimasa community, he would now focus on the overall development of the hill district and contribute actively to strengthening the BJP.
