Congress LoP Debabrata Saikia vows ideological stand, rules out joining BJP amid Pradyut Bordoloi exit

In the wake of Pradyut Bordoloi’s resignation from the Congress and his entry into the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Debabrata Saikia has firmly ruled out any possibility of switching sides, underscoring his unwavering commitment to party ideology and public service.

Describing Bordoloi’s departure as “unfortunate,” Saikia acknowledged the former Assam minister’s long-standing contributions to the Congress, noting that the party had extended respect, responsibility, and recognition to him over the years. The sudden exit, he added, raises questions about political ethics and the sense of commitment expected of senior leaders.

Responding to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s recent suggestion that Saikia could follow a similar path, the Congress LoP dismissed the claim as “baseless and misleading.” He reiterated, “My politics is not about power; it is about ideology, values, and a commitment to public service.” Saikia further emphasised that the moral teachings of his parents continue to guide his political journey and that he would never compromise on those ideals.

Highlighting the importance of public trust, support, and goodwill, Saikia pledged to continue serving the people with honesty and sincerity, maintaining the faith reposed in him.

The statement comes amid growing political activity and speculation in Assam, with party shifts and candidate selections gaining momentum ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
