Congress MLA flags reckless green bus operations in Guwahati
Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar on July 8 said Green Buses operating in Guwahati must strictly adhere to traffic rules, asserting that reckless operations have led to public complaints and road accidents.
Speaking to reporters, Sikdar said concerns over the functioning of the Green Bus service were raised by residents of Guwahati, who alleged that the buses often operate without following traffic regulations.
"The allegations were raised by the people of Assam and by the people of Guwahati. They said that the Green Bus does not operate the way it is supposed to. It runs according to its own will. It hits people and does not listen to anyone. It does not follow traffic rules," he said.
The Congress legislator said he respects the decision taken by the government on the issue but stressed that stricter enforcement is needed to ensure the buses operate safely.
"Our route in Guwahati is not very long. They should operate properly and follow the rules. If they do not follow the rules, it causes problems for people and also leads to accidents," Sikdar said.
Calling for stronger enforcement, he said authorities should ensure that Green Bus operators comply with traffic regulations to enhance road safety and prevent accidents.
