Congress stages protest in Assam’s Nalbari over alleged irregularities in Jal Jeevan Mission
The Town Block Congress on December 22, organised a massive protest in Nalbari against the alleged failure and corruption in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Hundreds of Congress workers took to the streets, targeting local MLA and Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. The protestors raised slogans such as “Jayanta Malla Baruah hai hai” and “Failed Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah must resign,” which echoed across Nalbari town.
The agitation intensified as demonstrators blocked the busy Hajo Road in the heart of the town, disrupting vehicular movement for a considerable period. Protesters also shouted slogans like “Bangladeshi protector BJP government hai hai,” accusing the ruling government of corruption and misgovernance.
Congress leaders alleged that despite tall claims, the Jal Jeevan Mission has failed to deliver potable drinking water to several households in the region, while corruption has plagued the scheme at multiple levels.
The protest witnessed the presence of Nalbari District Mahila Congress President Bitumoni Devi, former MLA Ashok Sharma, and Congress spokespersons Ratul Kalita and Dibyajyoti Haloi, along with a large number of party workers.
The Congress warned that protests would intensify if the government fails to address the alleged irregularities and take action against those responsible.
