‘Congress victory guaranteed’: Gaurav Gogoi takes aim at BJP, AIUDF ahead of Assam's Nagaon bypoll

The Congress has stepped up its organisational activities ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, with the party holding a massive public meeting at Juria on August 30.

 

Addressing the gathering, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed confidence that the Congress would win the upcoming bypoll, saying the party's victory was “guaranteed.”

 

Gogoi launched a sharp attack on both the BJP and the AIUDF. He alleged that the BJP ignores the concerns of poor people, while accusing the AIUDF of focusing more on business interests and using poor people for its own political benefit.

 

The Congress leader appealed to voters to remain alert against what he described as the politics of vote division by forces opposed to the Congress.

 

Gogoi also invoked the legacy of his father, former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, saying that his father served as Chief Minister of Assam for 15 years and consistently worked for the welfare of poor and common people.

 

The Congress MP further accused the BJP government of corruption and raised allegations related to various government schemes and flood relief. He questioned the government over alleged irregularities in relief materials meant for flood-affected people.

 

The Juria meeting was organised by the Juria Block Congress with the support of the Nagaon District Congress Committee. Several senior Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition Wazed Ali Choudhury, former MLAs Sibamoni Bora and Durlav Chamua, and MLA Nurul Huda, were present.

 

Party sources claimed that more than 5,000 Congress workers and supporters attended the meeting, with the gathering witnessing enthusiastic participation from party cadres.

 

The meeting comes as the Congress intensifies its preparations for the Nagaon by-election, with the party yet to finalise its candidate from among the ticket aspirants.
