Container carrying suspected stolen cattle seized in Assam's Sivasagar; three arrested
Joysagar Police in Assam’s Sivasagar district seized a container truck allegedly transporting a large number of stolen cattle during a late-night operation on February 27.
According to police, the container bearing registration number BR 03 GB 8221 was intercepted while it was reportedly carrying the cattle illegally from Kolajan in Dhemaji district towards Rupahi in Nagaon district.
Police detained three persons in connection with the case, Abul Kalam (42), Ataur Rahman (37) and Ayub Khan (22). They are currently being interrogated.
Sivasagar Additional Superintendent of Police Moyidul Islam said preliminary investigation has revealed sensational details. He stated that a powerful network is allegedly involved in facilitating the transportation of the cattle after they were loaded in Dhemaji. Police have gathered inputs about the wider racket and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, several organisations have demanded the arrest of all those involved in the illegal cattle trade and called for strict action against the network behind the operation.
