Continuous rain worsens road conditions, traffic gridlock disrupts life in Assam's Silchar
Continuous rainfall has severely affected normal life in Silchar city, as damaged roads and massive traffic congestion continue to create hardships for residents.
The worst-hit stretch is the Meherpur to Ghungoor road, where poor road conditions have made daily commuting increasingly difficult.
The situation has become especially critical for patients trying to reach Silchar Medical College and Hospital. Several people suffering from serious illnesses are facing delays due to traffic snarls, while ambulance services are also getting stuck on the congested route, raising concerns among the public.
Apart from patients, students of various educational institutions and pedestrians are also facing major inconvenience. Residents said the combination of damaged roads and prolonged traffic jams has also led to a rise in minor road accidents in the area.
Locals from the affected region have strongly urged the administration and the government to take immediate and effective steps to resolve the crisis.
When contacted on the matter, the Cachar District Commissioner said the administration is currently occupied with counting-related duties, but assured that the issue would be taken up after the process. He also said he would discuss the matter with the concerned departments.
