Continuous rainfall triggers landslide, KK road blocked in Dima Hasao

Heavy and continuous rainfall has once again exposed the fragile state of infrastructure in Dima Hasao district, as a landslide near Hajong village under Maibang subdivision blocked the vital KK Road connecting several villages.

The collapse left villagers and government employees working in the area struggling to cross the affected stretch, causing severe inconvenience to daily movement. Locals said that this is yet another reminder of the neglected condition of roads under the present government.

Following the publication of news highlighting the plight, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) and the Public Works Department (PWD) Maibang Division, with the help of contractors, initiated repair works to partially restore the route. Temporary repairs have been carried out to make the road motorable, easing difficulties for residents.

Dima Hasao Deputy Commissioner Munindra Nath Ngate visited the spot on Wednesday to take stock of the repair work in progress. Officials assured that measures are being taken to ensure the road remains passable for the villagers.

Notably, the KK Road had been lying in a dilapidated condition for a long time, but restoration efforts only began after reports about its worsening state were published in the media.
