            <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on September 8 expressed confidence that the Congress would win the upcoming Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, asserting that the party has a strong presence in the constituency.</p>

<p>Gogoi was in Nagaon, where he paid floral tribute to legendary singer and musician Dr Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion of his birth centenary.</p>

<p>Targeting former commissioner Debashish Sharma, Gogoi said that if Sharma had been planning to contest the election, he should have resigned from his government post earlier.</p>

<p>“Debashish Sharma has certainly made a mistake, but the main villain is Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma,” Gogoi said.</p>

<p>Gogoi also said the Congress had organisational strength in the Nagaon constituency following the delimitation exercise.</p>

<p>“After delimitation, several areas from my former constituency have been included in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency. Therefore, we have strength here,” he said.</p>

<p>The Congress president’s remarks came ahead of the Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll, scheduled to be held on October 6, with counting of votes on October 9.</p>
