Delhi to honour Bodo icon: MCD approves ‘Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg’ in Kailash Colony

In a landmark gesture recognising the legacy of Bodofa Upendranath Brahma, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has approved the naming of the road from A5 to A18 in Kailash Colony as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg.

The road will soon be formally dedicated to the nation, fulfilling a commitment made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the people of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The announcement traces back to March 16, when Amit Shah addressed the 57th Annual Conference of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) at Bodofa Fwthar in Dotma, Kokrajhar.

In his address, Shah lauded the ABSU for its pivotal role in fostering peace and development in Bodoland, stating, "First of all, I want to thank ABSU for giving me the opportunity to participate in this convention." He also expressed deep respect at Bodofa Brahma’s birthplace, saying, "Today, I stand at the birthplace of Bodofa UN Brahma, and I pay my respects."

Talking to India Today NE Khwrwmdao Wary Vice President of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) said inauguration ceremony will be graced by several prominent leaders including Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, Rekha Gupta, Delhi Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, Pramod Boro, Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) and Dipen Boro, President of the All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU)

The road named "Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg," will span from A5 to A18 in Kailash Colony, symbolizing the recognition of Brahma's role in fostering unity and development among the Bodo and other communities in Assam.

As a token of appreciation, Shah announced that a major road in Delhi would be named after Bodofa Upendranath Brahma — a towering figure in the Bodo movement who is widely revered as the father of the Bodo people. Additionally, a bust of Upendra Nath Brahma is set to be installed in Delhi in the first week of April in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

CM Sarma welcomed the MCD’s decision and expressed his gratitude on social media:
"My sincere gratitude to Hon'ble Union Home Minister Amit Shah for taking forward the proposal of naming a road in the heart of Delhi as Bodofa Upendranath Brahma Marg."

Shah also took a moment during his speech to pay tribute to the martyrs whose sacrifices helped bring peace to Bodoland — a region once marked by decades of unrest, now emerging as a symbol of reconciliation and growth.

This move not only honors Bodofa Brahma’s enduring legacy but also symbolizes a growing national recognition of the cultural and historical contributions of the Bodo community.
