Dhubri celebrates Rongali Bihu amid festive spirit and unrest

Dhubri, along with the rest of Assam, is embracing the fervour of Rongali Bihu, the state’s most cherished cultural festival. However, the celebrations this year are tinged with a sense of unease among the local populace due to ongoing unrest in certain parts of the district.

The Dhubri Central Rongali Bihu Udjapan Samiti commenced the three-day grand celebration of the renowned Bapati Sahoon Rongali Bihuti, a prestigious event held annually to mark the festival. The inauguration took place at the historic Raja Prabhat Chandra Barua Playground, drawing a large number of attendees.

The festivities began at 9 am with the ceremonial hoisting of the Bihu flag by Dhubri's Additional Commissioner, Banti Talukdar. Udayan Chakraborty, Executive President of the Dhubri Central Rongali Bihu Udjapan Samiti, led the memorial torch-bearing programme, honoring the cultural heritage of Assam.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, the day featured traditional Bihu Husuri performances and a vibrant cultural procession through Dhubri town, organized under the aegis of the central celebration committee. The procession showcased the region’s rich customs and community spirit, signaling the arrival of the Assamese New Year with hope and joy.
