Dhubri headmaster accused of beating 50+ Class 9 students, over 20 hospitalised

More than 50 Class 9 students of Kukiladanga High School in Assam's Dhubri district were allegedly beaten by the school's headmaster on September 11, with over 20 students reportedly requiring medical treatment.

The headmaster, Nurul Amin Ahmed, allegedly assaulted the students after they failed to produce photographs documenting a tree plantation drive carried out after Independence Day.

According to local accounts, Class 9 students had been asked to plant saplings following August 15 and submit photographs as proof. Students had earlier brought their mobile phones to school to show the photographs, but the headmaster reportedly told them that he would collect the pictures later.

The incident allegedly took place after the headmaster received a phone call from the Education Department seeking the plantation photographs. When several students could not immediately produce the required images, the headmaster allegedly caned students across the class.

The Class 9 batch has around 82 students, of whom more than 50 were reportedly injured in the alleged assault.

The incident triggered panic among parents and locals, with injured students being taken to several nearby health centres for treatment.

Two students, Sabina Yasmin and Rupsana Begum, were reportedly referred to Dhubri Medical College and Hospital for further treatment.

Several other students are also undergoing treatment, including Marjina Khatun, Rabiya Khatun, Ayesha Siddika, Marami Khatun, Atifa Khatun, Nurnehar, Mofida Khatun, Arifatun Nesa Firdousi, Anjuma Khatun and Ruksana Khatun.

Parents and local residents have expressed outrage over the alleged corporal punishment and demanded strict administrative and legal action against the headmaster.

Education officials and local authorities have been informed about the incident, and further action is awaited.
