Dibrugarh terror funding fraud: Rs 14.5 lakh recovered from labourer’s house in Moran, probe underway
Dibrugarh police carried out a major operation in Moran after recovering Rs 14.50 lakh in cash from the house of a daily-wage labourer, triggering suspicions of terror funding and financial fraud.
According to police, the recovery was made during a special search operation conducted at Gogul Pathar Khagarijan under Moran police station limits, based on specific intelligence inputs. The operation was led by Tingkhong sub-division DSP Brandon Daimary along with Moran police station in-charge Dantejit Deuri.
During the search, police raided the residence of Birju Thakur, a daily-wage labourer by profession. To the surprise of the police team, a box hidden under a bed in his bedroom contained Rs 14.50 lakh in cash. Officials said the possession of such a large amount of money by a labourer has raised serious questions about the source of the funds.

Police suspect that the recovered cash may be linked to terror funding, illegal extortion or organised financial fraud. An FIR has been registered at Moran police station under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in Case No. 89/24, and further investigation is underway to ascertain how the money reached the accused and whether any organised network or syndicate is involved.
Birju Thakur has been taken into custody and is being interrogated. Police said he will be produced before the Dibrugarh court as the investigation progresses.
Speaking on the matter, Tingkhong sub-division DSP Brandon Daimary said the police are examining all possible angles, including the possibility of terror funding and links to larger criminal networks, and assured that strict action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
