Assam government is set to inaugurate a new Chief Minister's secretariat in Dibrugarh on September 6. This move aims to decentralise power and improve accessibility for residents of the North and Upper Assam regions.
The new office will operate at least four days a month, significantly reducing the need for citizens to travel 500-550 kilometres to Dispur, the state capital, for government-related work.
Local resident Anil Poddar expressed enthusiasm for the development, stating, "This will immensely help the people of Upper Assam. Residents can now easily meet the Chief Minister to address their grievances without the hassle of long-distance travel."
Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan credited Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the initiative, linking it to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for regional development. "Its main aim is decentralised power and the people of upper Assam can easily sort out their problem here without going to Dispur," Phukan emphasised.
