‘Did I win because of you?’: Congress MP Rakibul Hussain hits back at Akhil Gogoi
Congress MP Rakibul Hussain on September 4 hit back at Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi, saying the latter’s anger towards him was understandable but questioning his claim to political success.
Speaking at Jogighopa in Assam’s Bongaigaon district, Hussain said he had spent 14-15 years in active politics, including serving as a minister, and asked whether Gogoi had helped him win elections during that period.
“It is natural for him to be angry with me. I remained a minister and was in political life for 14-15 years. Did he make me win then?” Hussain said, referring to Gogoi.
Hussain further claimed that Congress had provided Gogoi with a political platform, while party leaders organised the meetings and Gogoi mainly addressed them from the stage.
“We had created a platform for him. We organised the meetings and he would only speak from the stage. He then thought that he was the one who made us win,” Hussain said.
His remarks came amid an ongoing political exchange between the Congress and Gogoi following the Congress decision to sever its alliance with Raijor Dal.
The two sides have traded allegations over their respective political roles and electoral prospects in Assam.
