Dima Hasao eyes Rs 500 crore revenue as NC Hills Council hails Assam Budget 2026-27

Welcoming the Assam Budget 2026-27 as a balanced, people-centric and development-oriented financial roadmap, North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa on July 20 announced an ambitious plan to increase the council's annual revenue from around Rs 120 crore to Rs 500 crore.

Addressing a press conference at Vajpayee Bhavan in Haflong, Gorlosa praised Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah for presenting a budget that, he said, ensures inclusive development while making satisfactory allocations for Dima Hasao district.

He said the budget lays special emphasis on women's empowerment, youth development, tourism, healthcare and road connectivity, sectors that are crucial for accelerating the district's socio-economic growth.

Haflong MLA Rupali Langthasa and BJP Dima Hasao district president Dhrity Thaosen were also present at the press conference.

Highlighting the council's financial roadmap, Gorlosa said the NCHAC has initiated several measures to significantly enhance its own revenue generation. The council has set a target of increasing its annual revenue collection from the current ₹120 crore to ₹500 crore, which, he said, would strengthen its financial position and reduce dependence on external funding.

He expressed confidence that achieving the target would enable the autonomous council to implement development projects more effectively and accelerate infrastructure creation across Dima Hasao.

Reiterating the council's commitment to improving the quality of life for residents, Gorlosa said the NCHAC would fast-track the implementation of infrastructure and public welfare projects to ensure inclusive and sustainable development throughout the hill district.
