Durga Puja concludes in Dhubri, immersion processions begin under tight security

Durga Puja festivities concluded in Assam’s Dhubri on Bijoya Dashami on October 21 with devotees gathering at Netai Dhubuni Ghat along the Brahmaputra River to bid farewell to Goddess Durga as the district administration maintained tight security during the immersion processions.

The immersion rituals began at the historically significant Netai Dhubuni Ghat, where devotees brought clay idols of the ten-armed Goddess Durga for immersion, accompanied by traditional beats of dhak and dhol. Security personnel were deployed at the ghat, with the district administration monitoring the proceedings to ensure the process remained peaceful and orderly.

The celebrations followed the traditional rituals observed during Durga Puja, which began with Bel Bodhan on Shashti, marking the ceremonial invocation of the goddess.

Earlier in the day, devotees gathered at the Harisabha Temple premises in Dhubri to participate in Sindoor Khela, a traditional ritual in which married women apply vermilion to one another before the goddess’s departure. The ritual was followed by immersion processions across the town.

Bijoya Dashami marks the conclusion of the five-day Durga Puja celebrations and commemorates the victory of good over evil. The day is observed with farewell rituals, prayers and the immersion of Durga idols.
