‘Ever since I arrived, BJP has been rattled’: Bhupesh Baghel in Assam

Congress leader and party's Assam in-charge Bhupesh Baghel on September 22 alleged that BJP workers were behind the stone-pelting incident targeting Congress leaders' vehicles during campaigning in Assam’s Nagaon district.

Speaking about the alleged attack on Congress candidate vehicles in the Samaguri Assembly constituency, Baghel claimed that the incident was an attempt to intimidate the Congress leadership.

“Ever since I arrived, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been rattled. There was a meeting yesterday, and their attempt to intimidate us by sending goons failed; it is clear that they were Himanta Biswa Sarma's goons,” Baghel alleged.

He further claimed that a person who was part of the security detail of Wajid Ali Choudhury and allegedly instigated the stone-pelting was apprehended by police but later released from the police station.

Baghel also responded to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s comments on the incident, saying those involved in a crime would not admit to having planned it.

“No criminal or conspirator is going to admit, ‘I hatched the conspiracy’ or ‘I committed the crime’. The public can see the truth; just look at the video,” Baghel said.

He claimed that people seen in the footage were carrying BJP flags, pelting stones and raising slogans in support of the BJP.

The Congress has demanded action over the alleged attack, while the circumstances surrounding the incident and the identity and role of those involved are subject to investigation.

The BJP’s response to Baghel’s latest allegations was not immediately available.
