‘Extremely rare in India’: Assam doctors detect unusual skin cancer case

A rare case of Basal Cell Carcinoma, a form of skin cancer considered uncommon in India, has been detected at the Cancer Screening Centre of SK Roy Civil Hospital in Assam’s Hailakandi district.

According to hospital officials, such cases are rarely identified in India, making the diagnosis significant for the region’s medical community.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Ahimik Biswas from the hospital’s Cancer Screening Centre said the case was detected recently during screening procedures.

“We received a very rare cancer case called Basal Cell Carcinoma. This type of cancer is extremely uncommon in India, and such cases are rarely detected,” Dr. Biswas said.

Basal Cell Carcinoma is a type of skin cancer that generally develops in the outer layer of the skin and is often associated with prolonged exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Medical experts state that early diagnosis and timely treatment are important for effective recovery.

The detection of the rare case at the government-run hospital has drawn attention due to the unusual nature of the disease in the Indian context.
