Factional clash erupts at All Tiwa Students’ Union headquarters in Assam's Morigaon
A violent clash broke out between two rival factions of the All Tiwa Students’ Union at the organisation’s central office in Morigaon district on January 30, triggering tension within the student body.
The incident occurred at Majmajia, where a crucial meeting of the Morigaon district committee of the All Tiwa Students’ Union, led by the Biman Pratim Masreng group, was underway at the union’s central office. According to sources, the meeting was in progress when a group of student leaders aligned with the Prashanta Mosreng faction entered the premises.
An argument reportedly erupted after members of the Prashanta Mosreng group questioned Morigaon district committee president Dipankar Maslaik over the breaking of a lock at the office. The verbal altercation soon escalated into a violent clash between the two groups, leading to chaos at the premises.
Although there were no immediate reports of serious injuries, the incident caused panic among those present and disrupted organisational activities. The clash has once again exposed deep internal rifts within the All Tiwa Students’ Union, with both factions accusing each other of provocation.
Police were informed about the incident, and further details are awaited. Meanwhile, senior leaders of the organisation are reportedly attempting to intervene and defuse tensions to prevent further escalation of the dispute.
