            <div class="clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>A man allegedly posing as a police officer and collecting money from people on the promise of recovering stolen vehicles has been arrested in Assam's Hailakandi district, police said.</p>

<p>The accused, identified as Hasan Ahmed Choudhury, was arrested from the Algapur Bazar area by Panchgram Police on Sunday night.</p>

<p>According to the complaint, a motorcycle was stolen from the Jankibazar area of Hailakandi several months ago. Choudhury allegedly introduced himself as a police officer and took money from a youth, promising to recover the stolen motorcycle.</p>

<p>He allegedly went into hiding after receiving the money. A complaint was subsequently lodged at Panchgram Police Station in connection with the incident.</p>

<p>Police sources said Choudhury is also accused of collecting money from several other people by allegedly claiming to be a police officer and a close associate of the Superintendent of Police.</p>

<p>Police have seized a vehicle allegedly used by the accused and are questioning him to ascertain the extent of the alleged fraud and identify others who may have been targeted.</p>
