Family of trapped labourer pleads for financial aid amid coal mine rescue efforts in Umrangso

"We want him here, whether he is alive or only his body remains. The family is economically poor and needs immediate financial assistance," pleaded a family member of Khusi Mohan Rai, one of 15 laborers trapped inside a coal mine in the 3 Kilo area of Umrangso, Dima Hasao district.

Authorities have mobilized extensive resources to rescue the miners. The Indian Army has deployed a relief task force, while teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are on their way to the site.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has identified the trapped workers and assured the families of all possible assistance. However, the wait is agonizing for those affected.

"We have less opportunity for work, and that is why my uncle went to the coal mine," the family member added. "Now we are helpless. We need the government to step in, not only for the rescue but also for economic support."

The trapped workers’ families, most of whom are financially vulnerable, have appealed directly to the Chief Minister and the Assam government for immediate help.
