Fatal crash on NH-6 leaves one driver dead in Assam's Sribhumi

A high-speed collision on National Highway 6 near Patelnagar, Sribhumi, Assam, left one truck driver dead and another critically injured on November 24.

Police said the crash unfolded after a truck travelling from Tripura pulled over when its rear tyre burst. Another truck was already parked along the roadside. A third vehicle, reportedly speeding, slammed into the stationary truck, forcing it off the highway and trapping the driver beneath the wreckage. Officers who arrived shortly after confirmed the driver “died on the spot”.

Rescuers retrieved the body and sent it to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for a post-mortem. The victim was identified as Shekhar Pal of Panisagar, Tripura.

The driver of the first stationary truck, Abdul Hakim from Kumarghat, suffered severe injuries. He was referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment.

Authorities are examining how the speeding truck lost control and whether poor roadside conditions contributed to the crash. Police said further investigation is underway.
