February 8, 10:30 AM: Assam CM to make SIT findings public in Gaurav Gogoi's Pak link case

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 27 said the state government has registered a case against Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged links with individuals in India, including senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi.

Addressing the media after a cabinet meeting, Sarma said an initial informal discussion on the matter has already been held.

The Chief Minister said the state cabinet has directed the Home Department to place a formal discussion before it after the next cabinet meeting scheduled on February 7.

He added that the cabinet has authorised him to make public the findings of the SIT, to the extent permissible by law, on February 8 at 10:30 am, a Sunday, in the presence of national and local media.

Clarifying the scope of the case, Sarma claimed that the investigation directly relates to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi. He alleged that three individuals have been accused of having links with Pakistan — Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, Gaurav Gogoi’s wife, and Gaurav Gogoi himself. According to the Chief Minister, the SIT team has already made a presentation before the cabinet outlining its findings.

Sarma said the government would ensure transparency in the matter while adhering to legal boundaries, and asserted that the disclosures would be based strictly on the SIT’s investigation. The issue is expected to trigger major political reactions in the state ahead of the formal presentation of findings next month.
