'Felt humiliated, neglected': Pradyut Bordoloi on his exit from Congress
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the Dispur Assembly constituency, Pradyut Bordoloi on March 21 said he quit the Congress party after feeling “neglected” and sidelined for several years.
Addressing reporters, Bordoloi said he did not want to present his exit as a “sad story,” but admitted that he had been feeling “isolated” within the party for a considerable period.
“I was feeling neglected and isolated in the Congress party. There was a complete trust deficit, especially after the organisational elections. I was relegated to the background in every manner,” he said.
The BJP leader stated that the atmosphere within the party had become “vitiated,” making it difficult for him to continue. Without levelling direct allegations against specific individuals, he said certain developments after the internal elections further deepened his sense of mistrust.
Bordoloi also claimed that after he campaigned during the Congress presidential polls, he felt that some second-rung leaders wanted him “shunted out.” He alleged that he was excluded from key decision-making processes and reduced to a marginal role within the organisation.
Referring to recent political developments, Bordoloi said a large number of Congress workers and youth activists welcomed him upon his arrival in Guwahati and later joined the BJP. He claimed that many Congress workers are feeling “demotivated” due to the prevailing atmosphere in the party.
“Many workers feel there is no proper environment in the Congress party at the moment to work wholeheartedly,” he said, adding that several activists from different districts had expressed their desire to resign.
On allegations regarding minority appeasement, Bordoloi said he has always worked for the upliftment of economically and socially deprived sections across communities and denied engaging in any form of appeasement politics.
Bordoloi recently joined the BJP and is contesting from the Dispur seat in the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
