Fertile land behind India’s population growth: Assam MLA Raju Mech

Boko-Chaygaon MLA Raju Mech has attributed India’s large and growing population to the country’s fertile agricultural land and its predominantly agrarian economy.

Mech made the remarks while attending a meeting at the office of the Boko Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer on Tuesday, where he spoke about factors that have historically supported India’s large population.

According to the MLA, India’s population has reached around 140 crore because of the availability of fertile and productive land across the country. He said India’s agricultural character and its capacity to sustain food production have enabled the country to support a large population over the years.

Mech presented the availability of cultivable land and the country’s agricultural base as key factors contributing to its high population.

His remarks came during a meeting focused on agriculture-related issues in Boko, where the MLA highlighted the role of productive land in supporting India’s population.
