‘FIR if needed’: Hailakandi MLA flags alleged former MLA possession of govt land

A controversy has erupted over government-owned land in Assam’s Hailakandi district, with allegations that a former MLA has been occupying the plot.

The administration has stepped up efforts to reclaim the government land, while local MLA Dr Milon Das indicated that legal action, including registration of an FIR if required, could be initiated if the allegations are established.

As part of the land recovery process, officials inspected the site to assess its present status and usage. The administration has also begun examining government records relating to the ownership and use of the land.

Dr Milon Das said that if allegations of unauthorised occupation of government land by any individual or institution are found to be true, action would be taken in accordance with the law.

He also indicated that an FIR could be registered if necessary.

However, the final determination regarding the ownership, possession and use of the land will be based on official records and the outcome of the ongoing administrative process, officials said.

The administration’s move to reclaim the land has generated considerable attention in the area.
