Fire guts hut in Assam's Doomdooma, family appeals for urgent aid

A devastating fire has destroyed the home of a family in Goipani Basti under Doomdooma Police jurisdiction in Tinsukia district, leaving them in distress and without basic necessities.

The incident occurred a few days ago when a blaze engulfed the hut belonging to 52-year-old Bikram Bhumij, reducing most of the household belongings to ashes. While parts of the structure remain standing, the family has lost nearly all essential items. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

“I appeal to the administration to extend help immediately so that I can rebuild my house again,” Bhumij said, seeking urgent assistance.

The family resides in a small dwelling made of straw, bamboo, and mud—materials that made the structure highly vulnerable to fire. Bhumij also stated that he has not received benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and does not have an electricity connection.

Following the incident, the family is facing severe hardship and has urged the district administration to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation support.
