Five Bangladeshi nationals including a woman were held in West Katigorah in separate incidents while trying to illegally cross the border.
In a high-alert operation based on specific intelligence inputs, the Gumrah Police detained three individuals near the Mahalchhara border area on Sunday. Among them, Mohammad Salek, a resident of Bagerhat district in Khulna, Bangladesh, was caught illegally entering India. Two others, Saidul Islam and Mohammad Dulal, also from the same district, were intercepted while attempting to return to Bangladesh via the same route. Alert local residents assisted in their capture before handing them over to law enforcement.
All three individuals were subsequently transferred to Silchar for further legal proceedings and verification by the concerned authorities.
In a separate but related operation earlier in the day, Katigorah Police detained two more Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, from the Chourangi locality. Their identities remain unconfirmed as officials continue their interrogation and background checks.
Authorities have heightened security and surveillance along the sensitive Mahalchhara border zone, which has seen multiple cases of illegal infiltration in recent months.
