Five held for IPL gambling in Assam's Cachar, cash and mobiles seized
In a crackdown on illegal betting activities linked to the ongoing Indian Premier League, Cachar Police have apprehended five persons from Silchar in connection with an IPL gambling racket.
Acting on reliable input, police first detained one accused, identified as Samir Azij. Based on his statement, the team launched further operations and successfully apprehended four more individuals—Saibul Hussain Laskar, Zahir Hussain Laskar, Rajat Kumar Singh, and Aftab Laskar.
During the operation, police recovered and seized several incriminating items from their possession. These include cash amounting to Rs. 80,230, seven Android mobile phones, one notebook containing IPL gambling calculations, and four separate calculation sheets related to betting activities.
All seized items were taken into custody following due legal procedure. The accused persons were produced before the court on April 27.
A case has been registered at Silchar Police Station under and further investigation is underway.
