A head-on collision between an ambulance carrying a dead body and a truck in Sribhumi, Patharkandi, late August 30 night left five people injured, three of them critically.
According to reports, the impact was so severe that the ambulance skidded off the highway, trapping the driver, while five others sustained injuries. Local residents rushed to the scene and, with the help of a JCB machine, managed to rescue all occupants from the wreckage.
The injured were first admitted to Patharkandi Civil Hospital, but three critically injured patients were transferred to Sribhumi Civil Hospital for advanced treatment.
Police have seized both vehicles and launched an investigation into the accident. The identity of the deceased being transported remains unconfirmed.
Authorities have appealed to drivers to exercise extreme caution, particularly during night travel on highways.
