Panic briefly spread in the College Road area of Bamunimaidam after rumours circulated that a severed human leg had been seen floating in waterlogged surroundings on April 29.
However, police have dismissed the claim as false and said no such body part or suspicious object was found at the spot.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), police personnel immediately rushed to the location after receiving information, but nothing was recovered during the search.
Officials said no complaint had been lodged by any individual regarding the alleged incident.
Police further stated that the circulated visuals or claims may have originated from some other place or could possibly be AI-generated content.
Authorities have urged the public not to spread unverified rumours or misleading content on social media, especially during flood or waterlogging situations that can create unnecessary panic.
The police clarified that the claim is fake and no severed leg was found in the Bamunimaidam area.
