Floodwaters from Bhutan inundate villages in Assam's Chirang, damage homes and farmlands
A sudden surge of floodwaters flowing down from Bhutan caused widespread inundation in Panbari Bijoypur village under Bijni in Assam's Chirang district on Monday, July 13 morning, affecting several families and disrupting normal life in the area.
The unexpected rise in water levels flooded residential areas, submerging houses and leaving residents grappling with the impact of the deluge. The floodwaters also caused significant damage to agricultural fields, raising concerns over crop losses and the livelihood of affected farmers.
Local residents said the sudden influx of water caught them off guard, forcing many families to deal with inundated homes and damaged property.
With the situation affecting both habitation and agriculture, villagers have urged the government to provide immediate relief and assistance to those impacted by the flooding.
Authorities are expected to assess the extent of the damage and initiate necessary relief measures in the affected areas.
