Floodwaters inundate villages in Assam's Rupahihat, crops damaged

Floodwaters from the overflowing Kolong River have inundated several villages in Uttar Geruaati under Rupahihat in Assam's Chamguri Assembly constituency, causing extensive damage to agricultural land and crops.

The floodwaters have submerged hundreds of bighas of paddy fields and vegetable farms, leaving farmers facing significant losses.

Local residents said many families have been severely affected by the flooding and are struggling to cope with the loss of crops and agricultural produce.

The flood-affected residents alleged that they have not received any government assistance despite several villages being inundated. They also claimed that officials and elected representatives from the district administration have not yet visited the affected areas.

Residents said the flooding has created difficulties in accessing food and drinking water, apart from causing extensive damage to agricultural land.

They have urged the administration to provide immediate relief to the affected people and ensure adequate compensation for farmers who have suffered crop losses.
