FM Sitharaman announces modified UDAN Scheme to boost connectivity in Northeast

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Budget 2025 speech, revealed a modified UDAN scheme aimed at enhancing regional connectivity by adding 120 new destinations. 

The scheme will increase passenger capacity by 4 crore over the next 10 years.

The new initiative will focus on improving connectivity to hilly, aspirational, and northeastern regions, with a special emphasis on supporting helipads and smaller airports.

Greenfield airports will be developed in Bihar, complementing the expansion of Patna airport and Brownfield airport in Bihta.

In addition, Sitharaman announced financial support for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in Mithilanchal, a move that will benefit numerous farmers in the region. 

The scheme is designed to create a more robust infrastructure network, fostering economic growth and regional development.
