Food, Civil Supplies Department officials inspect Asam's Kaliabor market amid complaints over sugar, onion prices

Food, Civil Supplies Department officials conducted an inspection at the weekly market in Kaliabor following complaints that sugar and onions were being sold at prices higher than those prescribed by the district administration.

The inspection was carried out amid a rise in the prices of the two essential commodities. Officials visited the market and interacted with traders, asking them to sell sugar, onions and other essential commodities at the rates fixed by the Nagaon District Commissioner.

The officials also directed traders to adhere to the prescribed prices and cautioned them against charging consumers more than the notified rates.

The administration has intensified market monitoring as part of efforts to regulate the prices of essential commodities and prevent overcharging.

Officials said inspections would continue to ensure compliance with the prescribed rates and safeguard consumers’ interests.
