Former Raijor Dal firebrand Gyanashree Bora quits government job, eyes Assam Polls 2026

With an eye on the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, Gyanashree Bora, Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Goalpara College and a former prominent face of Raijor Dal, is set to make a comeback to active politics. Bora has formally resigned from her government service, signalling a decisive shift from academics to the political arena.

Speaking to the media, Bora confirmed her resignation and said the move was driven by her resolve to contest the upcoming Assembly elections. While she stopped short of officially announcing her political affiliation, sources and her own remarks strongly indicate her return to Raijor Dal, the regional party where she earlier emerged as a fiery and outspoken leader.

On the question of constituency, Bora said no final decision has been taken yet. However, she revealed that Khumtai in Golaghat district—her birthplace—or Makum in Tinsukia district, her matrimonial home, are among her preferred constituencies. She added that an announcement on this front would be made at an appropriate time.

Bora further disclosed that several political parties reached out to her soon after news of her resignation became public. Despite the interest shown by multiple outfits, she asserted that her ideological commitment remains unchanged.

“I will never compromise on regionalism,” Bora said, underlining her continued allegiance to regional political values.

Once widely known as Raijor Dal’s “Agni Kanya” for her aggressive articulation of regional issues, Bora said she would soon clarify both her party position and electoral plans, as preparations for the 2026 polls gather momentum across Assam
