Four alleged contract killers from Uttar Pradesh arrested with firearm, live ammunition in Assam's Gossaigaon
Four alleged contract killers from Uttar Pradesh were arrested with a country-made firearm and live ammunition in Assam's Kokrajhar district, police said on July 16.
The accused were apprehended from Ballamguri in Gossaigaon at around 9 pm following a police operation based on intelligence inputs.
The arrested persons have been identified as Dharmveer Gautam, Vikas Chaudhary, Suraj Gautam and Nizamis Ali, all residents of Basti district in Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the four had allegedly entered Assam with the intention of carrying out criminal activities in the state.
During the operation, police recovered a country-made firearm along with live ammunition from their possession.
Officials said the operation was launched after police received intelligence inputs around 15 days ago indicating that criminals from outside the state could enter Assam to execute violent or disruptive activities.
The suspects are currently being interrogated to ascertain the motive behind their visit, possible local links and whether they were acting on behalf of any organised criminal network.
Police have launched a detailed investigation.
