Fresh landslides disrupt traffic on national highway in Assam’s Kaliabor

Fresh landslides were reported at Burhapahar in Assam’s Nagaon district on Saturday, August 8 morning following continuous heavy rainfall, disrupting vehicular movement along a key stretch of the national highway.

According to reports, rocks and mud slid down the hillside at five locations in Burhapahar after incessant rain in the area since the early hours. The debris spilled onto the highway, partially blocking the carriageway and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) reached the affected locations and began clearance operations. Work is underway to remove the debris and restore normal traffic movement along the stretch.

The situation was further complicated after a truck reportedly met with an accident at one of the landslide-affected locations during the ongoing clearance operations. No casualties have been reported so far.

Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution while travelling through the affected stretch, particularly amid continuing adverse weather conditions. With rainfall persisting in the region, officials have warned of the possibility of further landslides in vulnerable areas.
