Fresh landslides hit Guwahati's Maligaon; Kamakhya Temple road blocked, family of four injured

Fresh landslides triggered by incessant rainfall struck Maligaon in Guwahati on July 20, disrupting traffic on the approach road to the Kamakhya Temple and leaving four members of a family injured in a separate incident.

In the first incident, mud, rocks and debris tumbled down a hillside onto the main road leading to the Kamakhya Temple, one of the city's busiest pilgrimage routes. A large tree was also uprooted, obstructing vehicular movement and disrupting communication in the area. Several stretches of the temple approach road were affected by landslides.

Officials from the district administration rushed to the spot and initiated clearance operations to remove debris and restore normal traffic movement.

In another landslide at Madhabdev Nagar in Maligaon, mud and rocks crashed onto a residential house belonging to Ranjit Das. Four members of his family sustained minor injuries in the incident and were provided medical attention.

The twin incidents come amid continuous heavy rainfall across Guwahati, raising concerns over the stability of vulnerable hill slopes. Authorities have urged residents living in landslide-prone areas to remain alert as the India Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days.

Road restoration and debris clearance operations are underway, while officials continue to monitor vulnerable locations across the city.
