Eight-year-old Binita Chetry from Assam's Karbi Anglong district has left an indelible mark on the global stage, wowing audiences and judges alike on Britain’s Got Talent 2025. Her breathtaking performance, infused with impeccable technique, gravity-defying flips, and electrifying energy, has turned her into an overnight sensation.
Binita, a fourth-grade student at My Own School in Jaipur, Rajasthan, originally hails from Amarajan in Bokajan, Assam. From a young age, she displayed an innate passion for dance, mimicking choreography from YouTube videos before receiving formal training. What began as an innocent fascination has now blossomed into a global journey, capturing hearts across continents.
A journey of passion and perseverance
Binita’s father, Amar Chetry, recalls the moment he realized his daughter’s potential. "She was barely three years old when we noticed her imitating dance moves with remarkable precision. Despite our limited resources, we knew we had to nurture her talent," he shared in an exclusive interview with India Today NE. Amar, who runs a small broiler farm in Assam, took the bold step of sending Binita to Guwahati for training before she moved to Jaipur under the care of her aunt, Anita Devi.
Under the mentorship of her aunty Amrita Devi and acclaimed dance trainer Hardik Rawat, Binita honed her skills through relentless practice and dedication. "It was Hardik Sir who urged us to take her to Britain’s Got Talent. He believed in her potential, and today, we are seeing the results of that faith," Amar added.
A performance that stunned the judges
As Binita took center stage in Britain’s Got Talent, her infectious energy and masterful performance left judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Bruno Tonioli, and Alesha Dixon in awe. The young dancer's confidence and stage presence were beyond her years, earning her a standing ovation. Before stepping onto the stage, she adorably revealed her dream—to win the prize money and buy herself a pink princess house. Her proud father watched from the sidelines, overwhelmed with emotion. "This is just the beginning," he said, hopeful for what lies ahead.
The mentor who saw her potential
Hardik Rawat, a renowned dancer and mentor to Binita, expressed his pride in her journey. "She joined my academy when she was just six years old—tiny and incredibly shy. But I could see the fire in her. Over time, she has worked tirelessly, and today, she is proving her mettle on a global stage," he stated.
As someone who has represented India in international dance competitions, Rawat understands the magnitude of Binita’s achievement. "This is a proud moment, not just for her family, but for the entire country. I believe she has the potential to take India’s name even further in the world of dance."
Aunt’s role in shaping a star
Binita's journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of her aunt, Amrita Devi. Speaking exclusively to India Today NE, Amrita recounted how she first noticed Binita’s passion for dance when she was just two years old. "We have seen her evolve from a little girl with raw talent into a disciplined dancer. Her dedication is unparalleled," she said.
Expressing gratitude to Hardik Rawat, Amrita acknowledged his vital role in shaping Binita’s skills. "His rigorous training and belief in her have played a crucial role in bringing her to this level. We are immensely grateful."
The road ahead
With her entry into the next round of Britain’s Got Talent, Binita’s journey is far from over. The next phase of the competition, scheduled for late April or early May, will be a defining moment in her career. As she prepares for her next performance, her family, mentors, and an entire nation stand behind her, cheering for her success.
