Speaking at a conference marking 11 years of the NDA government, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hailed the Centre's efforts in transforming the Northeast from what he described as a “chaotic place” during Congress rule into a more peaceful and stable region.
Referring to the past, Sonowal said the Northeast was once associated with “agitation and other crimes,” but credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for bringing about a change. He highlighted several agreements signed with insurgent groups, under which many extremists laid down arms and joined the mainstream.
“These peace accords reflect the strong political will of the Centre to integrate the region with the national development journey,” Sonowal said, adding that the NDA’s efforts have paved the way for growth, connectivity, and increased confidence among the people of the Northeast.
