Fuel prices lower in Assam compared to West Bengal, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

In the wake of rising petrol and diesel prices following the election results, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the issue, emphasizing that fuel prices in Assam remain comparatively lower than in neighboring West Bengal.

"The price of petrol and diesel in Assam is Rs 7 less than in West Bengal. Our prices are among the lowest in India," CM Sarma stated while speaking to the media here in Assam .

He elaborated on the pricing strategy, noting that before the elections, the state government had reduced fuel prices by Rs 3. However, he clarified that this reduction was not a revenue measure, as the government simultaneously increased the price by Rs 1.

Sarma reiterated, "Compared to West Bengal, the price of petrol and diesel is Rs 7 less, and this was established before the elections. While Rs 3 was reduced prior to the elections, only a Rs 1 increase has occurred post-election."
