Garbage dumping clogs drain in Assam's Kaliabor, residents fear artificial flooding

A drainage channel in Naltali area of Assam's Kaliabor has allegedly turned into a dumping ground due to the indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste and other garbage, raising concerns among local residents about possible artificial flooding.

 

The Fedeli Kuhar drain in Naltali, which serves as an important drainage channel for several nearby villages, is gradually becoming clogged as plastic materials and other waste are dumped into it.

 

Local residents alleged that some traders in the area have been disposing of garbage in the drain, obstructing the flow of water and reducing its drainage capacity.

 

The drain plays a key role in carrying away excess water from Naltali and several surrounding villages. Residents fear that continued dumping could eventually block the channel completely.

 

Concerned members of the local community have warned that a prolonged blockage of the drain could lead to waterlogging and artificial flooding in several villages, including Naltali, Jamkhala and Jengoni.

 

Residents have urged the local administration and concerned authorities to take immediate steps to clear the accumulated waste and prevent further dumping in the drainage channel.

 

They also called for stricter monitoring and appropriate action against those responsible for dumping garbage into the drain to prevent the situation from worsening.
