Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi has launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Assam government, accusing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of acting like a “real estate broker” and engaging in large-scale land transfers to industrialists from outside the state.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Gogoi asserted, “The message is very clear: the Congress party in Assam will fight for justice for every citizen suffering under a regime of fear and terror.” He alleged that the BJP government has been systematically persecuting the people, especially targeting tribal communities and minorities, through displacement and unjust land policies.
Gogoi revealed that the Congress party's top leadership, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, will soon visit Assam to reinforce the party’s commitment to stand by the people and send a strong message against intimidation. “There is no need to fear,” Gogoi emphasized.
He further alleged that nearly 17,000 acres of land have been handed over to non-local industrialists without seeking the consent or confidence of local communities. “The Chief Minister and his colleagues are dispossessing the poor and marginalized. This government is functioning more like a real estate syndicate than a public administration,” he added.
Gogoi reaffirmed that the Congress will continue its fight to protect the self-respect, dignity, and land rights of the people of Assam and stand firmly against what he described as the “corrupt and cruel policies” of the ruling dispensation.
