Gaurav Gogoi accuses BJP of ‘vote chori’, alleges selective flood relief distribution in Assam's Dhing

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on August 27 accused the BJP-led government of selectively distributing Rs 15,000 in flood relief to its own party workers while allegedly denying the assistance to supporters of the Congress and other political parties.

 

Gogoi made the allegations while addressing a booth-level convention organised by the Dhing and Nij-Dhing Block Congress committees ahead of the upcoming by-election in the Dhing Assembly constituency.

 

He also levelled allegations of “vote chori” against the BJP, accusing the ruling party of electoral malpractice. His remarks came during a political meeting attended by senior Congress leaders and party workers.

 

Gogoi also commented on reports suggesting that Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma could be a possible BJP candidate for the Dhing by-election.

 

Reacting to CPI(ML) leader Akhil Gogoi’s reported statement that he had not taken responsibility for helping the Congress in the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, Gogoi and senior Congress leader Rakibul Hussain also responded to the remarks.

 

Former MLA Shivamoni Bora, meanwhile, said she remained hopeful about receiving the party ticket and would accept the party’s decision.

 

The booth convention was attended by Gaurav Gogoi, Rakibul Hussain, AICC general secretary Manoj Chauhan, MLAs Nurul Huda, Tanzil Hussain and Nurul Islam, Mira Borthakur, and several other Congress leaders and workers.
