Gaurav Gogoi accuses Centre of dodging debate on Ram Mandir, NEET, Manipur in Parliament

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on July 19 accused the Centre of attempting to avoid discussions on key public issues during the upcoming Parliament session, alleging that the government was "stalling for time" instead of showing accountability.

Speaking after the Business Advisory Committee meeting chaired by the Lok Sabha Speaker, Gogoi said the Opposition had assured constructive cooperation on government bills but expected the Centre to reciprocate by agreeing to debates on issues of national importance.

"The Opposition has clearly stated that we will offer constructive participation and support for the government's bills. In return, we expect the government to demonstrate its moral responsibility and provide answers regarding critical public issues," Gogoi said.

He alleged that the government had not indicated any willingness to discuss matters such as the Ram Mandir issue, the NEET examination controversy, the ethanol policy, the situation in Manipur, or the challenges faced by the agriculture sector and farmers.

"Even today, the people of the country do not know if the government is prepared to discuss the Ram Mandir issue. Is the government ready to discuss NEET? Is it ready to discuss the ethanol policy? Is it ready to address the situation in Manipur? Is it prepared to discuss the difficulties currently facing the agricultural sector and farmers?" he asked.

The Congress leader claimed the government was creating an atmosphere in Parliament to suppress discussions on these issues.

"It clearly appears that the government is strategising to evade these topics entirely and is trying to create an atmosphere in the House that stifles discussion," Gogoi said.

Challenging the Centre to make its position clear, he urged the government to announce a schedule for debates on the issues.

"Show me just one statement from a minister confirming the government's readiness to discuss these four issues or specifying the duration and timing of such debates. Let the people know the date and time so they can watch the discussions in Parliament," Gogoi added.
