Gaurav Gogoi broke alliance fearing he would miss Chief Minister post: Bhupen Borah

Former Congress leader Bhupen Borah has alleged that party MP Gaurav Gogoi was responsible for breaking a proposed opposition alliance in Assam due to personal political ambitions.

Speaking on the issue, Borah claimed that there had been a plan to formally announce the formation of the alliance during the visit of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi to the state. However, he said the announcement did not materialise as expected.

“The plan was that when Priyanka Gandhi would come, all alliance partners would announce the formation. The alliance will still happen now,” Borah stated, indicating that discussions among opposition parties are ongoing.

He further alleged that Gogoi backed out of the arrangement, fearing that if an alliance government were formed, he might not become Chief Minister.

The remarks suggest internal differences within the state Congress unit over leadership aspirations and alliance strategy ahead of upcoming political developments in Assam.

There has been no immediate response from Gaurav Gogoi regarding the allegations.
